40 til 40 Countdown (#1): Mom Opera

I think it was yesterday that I had the idea to do a 40 days till my 40th bday countdown (or maybe it was this morning) where I make some kind of list of 40 things to accomplish before turning 40. So I decided to actually count the days until my birthday and it turns out that there are exactly 40 days — from today — until the auspicious date. Now, as with so many things in my life, I wasn’t quite ready to get started today. I need more time to think of the parameters for the countdown: its objective, components (and so on and so forth). In case you haven’t noticed, I have the tendency to come up with lots of ideas and lists and to dos and get a bit (ahem) overwhelmed and then not always follow through.

It is somewhat possible also that you may have noticed a bit of a lapse in my blogging activity of late. This is primarily due to the fact that the star chart that I blogged about in my last post has taken on a bit of a life of its own and so a significant portion of my minimal ‘discretionary’ time has gone to the star chart. More about that in the future though.

The remainder of my discretionary time has gone into making another YouTube video. In case you don’t want to click and watch, it’s me in a wig (and wearing make-up which apparently was more surprising to some folks) singing popular songs with the lyrics changed about the trials of motherhood. I LOVED making this video. I wrote bits and pieces over about 6 months and tried filming it a few different times but finally all of the pieces ‘came together’ (to the extent that they did) last month.

Since finishing the opera, I’m searching (that’s the positive way to put it, I believe) for a direction to my ‘professional’ life that in some way combines (at least most of) the following:
– writing song lyrics
– comedy
– performing
– writing other stuff (fiction/non-fiction)
– making the world nicer for more people (and also for the other beings who aren’t people)
– writing about how we choose how to spend time and what we value

No answers are becoming readily apparent but if you have a great idea for me, feel free to post in the comments. So for now I’m just going to work on my 40 til 40 countdown. #1 was to post my mom opera on this blog. The idea is to write something everyday for the 40 days and to also do my best to accomplish the 40 things on the list, or at least to have fun trying. So here goes…
